Israel Accused of Ceasefire Blockages Amid Security Demands

Israel has faced criticism for allegedly blocking ceasefire agreements. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains that Israel must retain control over Gaza’s southern border with Egypt as a security measure—a condition Hamas has rejected outright.

Hamas Negotiator Killed; Group Calls for Israeli Withdrawal

In July, Israel reportedly killed Hamas’s chief negotiator, Ismail Haniyeh, during his visit to Iran. Hamas has been calling for a lasting ceasefire, contingent on the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Qatar Suspends Mediation Role

In light of recent setbacks, Qatar announced on Saturday that it would halt its mediator role until both Hamas and Israel demonstrate a “sincere willingness” to engage in peace negotiations. The move underscores the ongoing stalemate as mediators push for a path to de-escalation.
