US and UAE Discuss Ceasefire in Gaza

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, recently held a phone conversation regarding efforts to implement a ceasefire in Gaza. The UAE-based news agency WAM reported this on Tuesday, March 25, with confirmation from British news agency Reuters.

According to the report, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed emphasized the importance of ensuring humanitarian aid for Gaza residents during his conversation with Trump. He also sought U.S. support for a two-state solution to establish lasting peace.

In February, Trump proposed a controversial plan to address the Gaza crisis, suggesting the removal of Palestinians from Gaza and transforming the region into a Middle Eastern Riviera. However, this proposal was met with opposition from the UAE and other Arab nations.

As an alternative, Egypt introduced a $53 billion reconstruction plan for Gaza, which would not require the displacement of its residents. The UAE and other Arab countries have approved this proposal.

The WAM report did not confirm whether Trump and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed discussed the Gaza reconstruction plan during their call.

Notably, during Trump’s first term, the U.S. brokered diplomatic normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations, including the UAE.
