Ukraine Shoots Down 45 Missiles and 266 Drones in a Single Night

The Voice News :In one night alone, Ukraine intercepted and shot down 45 Russian missiles and 266 drones. The country’s military confirmed the report on Sunday (May 25), local time. Moscow has launched major overnight attacks across Ukraine for two consecutive nights, resulting in at least 12 deaths, according to AFP.

In a Telegram post, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that most regions of the country were affected by enemy strikes. Air raids were recorded in 22 areas, and in 15 locations, cruise missiles and offensive UAV drones were successfully shot down.

Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine have released several hundred prisoners, a rare gesture of cooperation over three years into the war. However, just hours before Saturday’s (May 24) prisoner exchange, Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, injuring at least 15 people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that both sides had released 307 soldiers each on Saturday. A day earlier, 390 prisoners — including both military personnel and civilians — were also released. This ongoing exchange over the weekend marks the largest prisoner swap since the war began.

Earlier on Sunday morning (May 25), Russia launched drone attacks on Kyiv and other cities. So far, three people have been reported killed and another 11 injured in these assaults. Local authorities stated that several buildings were damaged.

Officials in the Kyiv region reported that three people died in two small towns outside the capital. Multiple regional centers — including Kharkiv (Ukraine’s second-largest city), southern Mykolaiv, and western Ternopil — also came under attack.

The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Takachenko, stated that 11 people were injured in the drone attacks. One such attack caused a fire in a five-story apartment building in the Holosiivskyi district, just outside the city center, damaging the building’s exterior.

In another city, a private car and a commercial center were damaged in the strikes. This marks the second consecutive day of widespread attacks across Ukraine.
