UK Imposes Major Sanctions on Russia’s ‘Shadow Fleet’ Evading Oil Restrictions

The UK government has announced its largest package of sanctions to date targeting Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” a network of vessels allegedly used to bypass sanctions on Russian oil exports.

The Kremlin reportedly relies on this fleet to circumvent international restrictions, funneling funds to support its ongoing war in Ukraine. British officials have condemned the use of these tactics as a direct challenge to global sanctions and a means of financing what they describe as an “illegal war.”

The latest sanctions aim to disrupt the operations of these vessels, further tightening restrictions on Russia’s oil trade and its ability to fund military activities.
