Tulip Siddiq Accuses Bangladesh Authorities of False Allegations and Media Smear Campaign

British MP Tulip Siddiq has accused the Bangladesh authorities of making false allegations against her in the media without directly reaching out to her. She claims that for months, the authorities have been conducting a smear campaign against her without providing any substantial evidence or contacting her for clarification.

Siddiq revealed that more than two weeks ago, her legal team sent an official letter to the Bangladeshi authorities, urging them to stop spreading baseless accusations and inviting them to raise any legitimate concerns they might have. However, she stated that the deadline for their response has passed, and no reply has been received.

Continued Smear Campaign

Instead of engaging in direct communication, Siddiq alleges that the Bangladesh authorities continue to propagate misleading and defamatory statements through the media. “I have provided detailed rebuttals to all allegations made through the media, acting in good faith, yet they have not shown the same courtesy,” she said, criticizing the one-sided nature of the accusations.

She also questioned the integrity of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Dhaka, emphasizing that if they genuinely had any questions, they knew how to reach her. “Here in the U.K., we have due process, the rule of law, and a tradition of fair play,” she said, asserting that she would cooperate with any legitimate inquiry but would not tolerate politically motivated attacks.

Denouncing Political Motives

The Labour Party politician strongly condemned what she called a “witch-hunt” and an attempt to undermine her credibility. She suggested that the allegations might be politically motivated, aimed at distracting from internal issues in Bangladesh.

“I will not be drawn into dirty politics, nor allow their witch-hunt to undermine my work as a British citizen and proud member of the U.K. Parliament,” Siddiq declared, making it clear that she would not let the allegations interfere with her parliamentary responsibilities.

The controversy surrounding Siddiq’s allegations raises questions about the relationship between Bangladesh’s authorities and international figures, as well as the role of media narratives in shaping political discourse. While the Bangladesh government has not yet officially responded to Siddiq’s claims, the situation continues to draw significant attention in both the U.K. and Bangladesh.
