Trump Proposes Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health Secretary

Kennedy, a former presidential candidate who subsequently supported President-Elect Trump, expresses skepticism regarding conventional health advice, including vaccinations and the addition of fluoride to water. It is unclear whether the Senate, even if it is Republican-controlled, will confirm him. Trump announced his nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Health and Human Services Department. This would give a strong voice to those who are skeptical of vaccines, as Kennedy Jr. had previously stated his intention to “go wild on health” under Trump’s presidency. The confirmation of him by the Senate, even if dominated by Republicans, remains uncertain.

New York Time reported that Trump announced today his intention to nominate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Health and Human Services Department, therefore placing a prominent vaccination skeptic in a position of considerable authority over public health policy.

Kennedy’s opposition to public health initiatives, advocacy for alternative medicine and natural foods, and propagation of misinformation on vaccines—specifically the assertion that they induce autism—indicate that he would likely confront the agencies he would supervise.
