Trump Named Time’s Person of the Year for 2024

Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States, has been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024, following his historic return to the White House after losing re-election in 2020. This marks Trump’s second recognition by Time, having first won the title in 2016.
Describing Trump’s political resurgence as “unparalleled in American history,” the magazine highlighted his journey through the tumultuous 2024 campaign, during which he overcame legal battles, assassination attempts, and political challenges to secure the presidency. Trump himself referred to this journey as “72 Days of Fury.”
A Historic Comeback
Trump’s achievement places him alongside Grover Cleveland as the only U.S. presidents to serve non-consecutive terms. Time praised Trump’s ability to consolidate support, notably from figures like Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., while surviving intense scrutiny and emerging victorious in a chaotic election year.
Trump celebrated the honor by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, joined by former First Lady Melania Trump, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and Vice President-elect JD Vance.
“This is an incredible honor, and I think I like it better this time,” Trump remarked.
Plans for the Future
In his interview with Time, Trump shared ambitious plans for his administration, including military-led deportations and the immediate pardoning of individuals convicted for their roles in the January 6 Capitol attack. Despite the controversy surrounding his policies, Trump’s election victory signals significant political capital to address domestic and international issues.
Legacy of Influence
Time’s Person of the Year recognizes individuals for their influence, not necessarily their popularity. Trump joins a list of U.S. presidents, including Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, who have shaped history during their terms.
As Trump prepares for his second term, the world watches to see how he will wield his renewed political power.
