The Voice News:The Trump administration has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling that blocks the deportation of foreign nationals to South Sudan without first giving them an opportunity to claim they may face torture or death upon return.
A federal judge had previously barred such deportations, emphasizing the need for due process. However, Solicitor General D. John Sauer argued in a court filing that one judge should not be allowed to disrupt the government’s nationwide deportation policies, especially when migrants have been convicted of crimes.
The administration wants the authority to deport individuals to countries not originally listed in their removal orders—South Sudan being one such example.
Public comments on the case have largely criticized the administration’s move, with many asserting it threatens legal protections and democratic principles.
