Trudeau, Zelenskiy Stress Ukraine Must be Included in Talks to End War

OTTAWA – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insisted Thursday in a telephone conversation that Kiev must be at the negotiating table in any talks to end the war with Russia. This was informed by the Prime Minister’s Office.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been pushing for a quick deal to end the war, causing concern among Washington’s European allies. Ukraine and its European allies were excluded from preliminary talks with Russia last week.
“The two leaders stressed that Ukraine must remain at the negotiating table for a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” Trudeau’s office said in a statement. “
Canada is home to one of the world’s largest Ukrainian diasporas outside of the countries bordering Ukraine. Ottawa is one of Kiev’s staunchest supporters in the conflict with Moscow.
In his conversation with Zelensky, Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s support for Ukraine and said that “sustainable peace in Europe is not possible without the security of Ukraine. “
The discussions reflected the international community’s concerns about Ukraine’s security and regional stability.
