Tom Holland and Austin Butler Join Forces for New Racing Film

Tom Holland and Austin Butler will collaborate on a new racing movie, in which they will portray brothers.

According to Variety, the duo will star in American Speed, based on the true story of the Whittington Brothers. The film is expected to depict the 1980s IMSA Scandal, where several drivers were charged for funding their racing campaigns with money from illegal activities.

Holland and Butler are the only confirmed cast members for the project, which has been acquired by Amazon MGM Studios. Charles Roven is confirmed as a producer, and Dan Wiedenhaupt has signed on to write the screenplay.

While American Speed is still in the early stages, Holland—best known for his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—recently landed a role in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated new film, joining Matt Damon in the cast.

Holland, who also starred as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted film adaptation, expressed his excitement about joining the currently untitled project, saying, “When the opportunity came in, it was the phone call of a lifetime.

“It reminded me of getting that call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and really, really excited. All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited and obviously honored, but that’s all I can say because, to be honest, that’s really all I know.”

While Holland has some time to wait before appearing in both Nolan’s mystery project and American Speed, he recently provided an update on a fourth Spider-Man film, sharing that he was impressed by the first draft of the script.

“The idea is crazy. It’s a little different from anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are going to really respond to it,” he said, adding that the script had “lit a fire” within him.
