If the Joe Biden administration does not change its decision at the last minute, the popular social media platform TikTok will be closed in the United States from tomorrow Sunday.
Citing a statement from TikTok on Friday, CNN reported this news. TikTok has more than 17 million subscribers in the United States. But US lawmakers have long expressed displeasure with ByteDance, its China-based owner. The US administration has expressed fears that the Chinese government could be spying on the US people through TikTok. In addition, many US politicians have labeled TikTok as ‘anti-Semitic’ for not censoring content about the Israeli genocide.
Based on these allegations, the US Congress passed a bill last year that Joe Biden signed into law. According to that law, TikTok must be owned and managed in the United States by a US person or entity. Or TikTok will cease to exist in the country from January 19.
Although TikTok appealed, the US Supreme Court later ruled to uphold this law.
