The Vivienne and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Winner, Passes Away

James Lee Williams, beloved drag performer known as The Vivienne, who made history as the first winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, has tragically passed away at the age of 32. The news was confirmed by their manager, Simon Jones, in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday.

“It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne, has passed this weekend,” Jones wrote, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of the talented performer. He described The Vivienne as “an incredibly loved, warmhearted and amazing person” and extended condolences to their family, who are “heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother, and uncle.”

The Vivienne, who won the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019, quickly became a fan favorite for their quick wit, exceptional drag skills, and fierce persona. In addition to their groundbreaking win, The Vivienne also returned to the Drag Race stage as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 7 in 2022, showcasing their enduring influence in the drag community.

Though the cause of death has not been disclosed, the outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow queens reflects the profound impact The Vivienne had on the drag scene. Their legacy, both as a performer and as a person, will continue to inspire and resonate with the many lives they touched.
