The United States Halts Intelligence Sharing with Ukraine

The United States has stopped providing intelligence to Ukraine following the cessation of military aid. This move is expected to significantly reduce Ukraine’s capability to launch attacks against Russian forces, according to three officials familiar with the matter on Wednesday, March 5.

After a verbal altercation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the U.S. would halt military aid to Ukraine. American intelligence has been crucial for Ukraine to target Russian troops and military infrastructure amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The U.S. has also urged allied countries to cease sharing their intelligence with Ukraine. Two officials indicated that while some internal sources might still provide Ukraine with intelligence, it would not be as critical or timely as before. This means Ukraine will no longer receive information about Russian troop movements from the U.S.

Last Friday, a heated exchange took place between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office, leading to a severe deterioration in relations between the two nations. Trump had previously called Zelensky an autocrat, which had strained their relationship, but the situation seemed to be improving until the recent confrontation.

On Tuesday, Zelensky posted a lengthy message on the microblogging site X, signaling a softer stance by expressing his willingness to work under Trump’s leadership. He also sent a letter to Trump stating that he was open to a mineral deal with the U.S., which would allow the U.S. to benefit from Ukraine’s rare minerals and natural resources.
