The holiday box office is winding down, with Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 continuing to dominate. After a strong holiday week, Mufasa claims its first No. 1 weekend, earning $7.6 million on Friday. The Disney prequel has crossed $150 million in North America, though it still lags behind its predecessor’s $191 million opening.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 dropped to second place with $6.9 million on Friday and is projected to earn $20.7 million for the weekend. The film has surpassed $170 million domestically and is set to outpace Sonic 2’s $190 million total.
In third, Nosferatu earned $4.2 million, with a projected domestic gross of $69 million by Sunday. Moana 2 came in fourth with $4.1 million and is on track to surpass $900 million globally.
Wicked rounds out the top five, with $10.2 million expected this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $450 million.
Searchlight Pictures’ A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, is performing well, projected to surpass $40 million domestically by Sunday.
