Thanos Returning in New Avengers Movie

Josh Brolin has addressed the possibility of Thanos returning in ‌‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, also known as ‘Avengers 6’.

Scheduled for release on May 7, 2027, this upcoming film will cap off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, marking the finale of The Multiverse Saga.

In an interview with Collider during New York Comic Con, Brolin remained coy about a potential comeback in the MCU, but left the door open for the Mad Titan’s return. He expressed that he would consider reprising the role, but only if the circumstances were right. Brolin also mentioned he would gladly work with directors Anthony and Joe Russo again if they approached him.

He stated, ‘I’m not kidding—there’s a real consideration when it comes to playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they might bring Thanos back.’ It has to feel right, just like with ‘Sicario’. It’s similar to my conversations with Ryan Reynolds about Taylor Swift instead of ‘Deadpool 4’. It’s about what fits in their vision and mine. Thanos has to make sense if he’s going to return. I would do anything the Russos wanted me to do.’

‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will follow the events of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is set to premiere in 2026. The Russo brothers are back to direct both ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘6’.

In July, it was announced that ‘Avengers 5’ received a new title alongside the surprising news that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

“New mask, same task,” Downey Jr. quipped after his identity was revealed on stage. “I enjoy playing complex characters.”
