Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated to an extreme level, raising concerns of a potential military conflict.
In this tense situation, Pakistan’s main opposition party, PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf), has demanded the release of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The party has also called for an all-party conference with Khan’s participation.
This information was reported by the Pakistani news outlet Dawn on Tuesday (April 29).
According to the report, after the attack on tourists in Pahalgam that heightened Indo-Pak tensions, PTI demanded the release of its leader Imran Khan so he could participate in crucial national discussions.
On Monday, PTI raised this demand in the Senate of Pakistan. The party also called for the immediate organization of a multi-party conference, insisting that Imran Khan’s presence be ensured at the event.
PTI’s Parliamentary Leader in the Senate, Senator Ali Zafar, said, “It is now necessary to set aside political differences and unite for the sake of the country. In the current situation, an all-party conference is the only right step.”
He added that if Imran Khan can take part in such a conference, it would send a clear message to the world that Pakistan is united, thereby strengthening the country’s position.
Ali Zafar compared Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to a “Nazi mindset” and said India is falsely accusing Pakistan, even though Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism.
PTI leader Shibli Faraz said Imran Khan should be allowed to deliver a speech on television so he can call on the public to gather at Minar-e-Pakistan and march towards the Indian border (Wagah Border). He claimed that more than ten million people would respond to this call.
Faraz also stated, “Only the true representative of the people can send a strong message to India.” He also demanded the withdrawal of false politically motivated cases and the release of all political prisoners.
Irfanul Haq Siddiqui, a Senator from the ruling PML-N, said, “The Pahalgam attack was a false flag operation orchestrated by Indian authorities to defame Pakistan.”
He questioned, “When there is one Indian soldier deployed for every seven Kashmiris, how is such a major attack possible under such tight security?”
Senator Siddiqui further said that even within India, Modi’s policies are being questioned, and the international community is also not giving importance to India’s claims.
