Tarique Rahman to Meet Dr. Yunus in London Next Friday

London, June 10, 2025 — In a development that is drawing significant attention in Bangladeshi political circles, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to meet Nobel Laureate and Bangladesh’s interim government head Dr. Muhammad Yunus in London next Friday.

Sources close to both parties have confirmed that the meeting will take place in the British capital, where Dr. Yunus is currently visiting. While the exact agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, political analysts suggest that discussions may cover Bangladesh’s ongoing political crisis, upcoming electoral roadmap, and possible future cooperation between the interim administration and the BNP leadership.

This will mark the first known face-to-face meeting between Tarique Rahman and Dr. Yunus since the controversial formation of the interim government last year, which ousted the elected Awami League administration. The BNP has so far maintained a cautious stance toward the Yunus-led government, with many observers viewing this upcoming meeting as a potential thaw in relations.

Dr. Yunus, who arrived in London earlier this week, has been holding a series of engagements with British lawmakers, civil society members, and the Bangladeshi diaspora in the UK. Tarique Rahman, who has been living in exile in London since 2008, remains a key figure in Bangladesh’s opposition politics.

The meeting comes at a time when Bangladesh’s political future hangs in the balance, with international actors urging dialogue and a return to democratic norms.

More details on the outcome of the meeting are expected to emerge in the coming days.
