Sydney Sweeney has landed a new thrilling project, set to produce and star in I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, an adaptation of a suspenseful short story from Reddit. The Euphoria star will bring to life the story of a drifter who impersonates a missing girl in a bid to rob her family, only to realize she’s made a fatal mistake.
The story, originally published on Reddit in 2021 by Joe Cote, will be adapted into a screenplay by Eric Roth, known for his work on Forrest Gump and Dune. Sweeney will also produce the film through her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films.
This new project follows Sweeney’s growing role as a producer, having previously worked on films like Anyone But You and the upcoming Immaculate. The actress, who has also been involved in the production of The Housemaid, continues to explore both acting and behind-the-scenes roles in Hollywood.
I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl adds to a trend of adapting viral stories, following in the footsteps of Zola, a 2020 film based on a Twitter thread. Fans are eager to see how Sweeney brings this chilling Reddit tale to the screen.
