Dhaka, April 23, 2025 — The Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (Swachip), a pro-Awami League doctors’ association, has alleged that its central office in Dhaka was attacked and looted on Wednesday afternoon by miscreants backed by what it calls the “illegitimate Yunus government.”
According to a press release issued by Swachip, the incident took place around 1:00 PM when a group of individuals forcibly broke into the organization’s permanent office premises. The attackers reportedly removed the on-duty security guard and looted furniture and other valuables from the office.
Swachip leaders have termed the attack as part of a broader attempt by the current regime to dismantle the healthcare system and instill a climate of fear among medical professionals across the country.
In the statement, Swachip accused the government of targeting doctors through harassment, false lawsuits, arrests, job insecurity, and violent assaults on private chambers. The organization warned that if such repression continues, they would initiate a mass movement in alliance with the general public.
Highlighting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s contributions to the health sector—including the establishment of community clinics, medical universities, and specialized institutes—Swachip emphasized its longstanding role in implementing healthcare reforms and serving people under her leadership.
The organization demanded immediate arrests of those involved in the attack and condemned what they describe as an ongoing campaign of intimidation against health professionals.
The statement concluded with slogans of solidarity with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the spirit of the Liberation War, signaling a strong political undertone to the protest.
