Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster stars. Defying age, he continues to work relentlessly, often taking life-threatening risks for his roles. With a career spanning decades, he remains one of the film industry’s top hit-makers. His movies are known for drawing massive audience interest and dominating the box office.
However, despite his immense success, Cruise is not always given the recognition he deserves. This claim was made by his co-star in Valkyrie, Kenneth Branagh. He stated, “Many people fail to properly appreciate Tom Cruise.”
Cruise is soon to be honored with the prestigious BFI Fellowship from the British Film Institute, the highest honor given to an actor or producer. In an interview with The Times of London, Branagh discussed the honor, saying that for those who fail to appreciate Cruise, this recognition will come as a surprise. Branagh emphasized that only seeing Cruise as a movie star is unjust.
He added, “For those who see him only as a movie star, their perception is flawed. Tom has reached a point where he no longer needs to make movies. One day, perhaps, he will surprise his critics by stepping away from action films.”
Branagh also praised Cruise’s achievements with Mission: Impossible and Top Gun, calling them “unique” and said that Cruise is moving towards a golden age of acting. “His global popularity is enviable,” he said.
Branagh also mentioned that Cruise has worked in several films in the UK and has great relationships with the locals. He’s always treated as an honored guest during his time there. “The UK will be proud to honor him,” Branagh added, calling it a “carefully cherished” gesture.
In response to the news of his BFI honor, Cruise said, “I’m truly honored. I’ve been making films in the UK for over 40 years and I have no plans to stop.”
