Amy Adams is back in a new movie, Nightbitch, which mixes black comedy and horror. The movie shows a different side of being a mom.
Based on a book by Rachel Yoder, Superman Actress Adams plays a character called “Mother.” She leaves her job to stay home with her kids, but her life takes a strange turn when she starts turning into a dog.
Even though the movie gets weird, Adams says Nightbitch shows a part of motherhood that people don’t often talk about. This makes the movie feel real to those who watch it.
Adams told Digital Spy, “I’m hearing from people that they feel seen. The movie shows an experience that isn’t often talked about. It shows the problems and deep thoughts we have, but don’t always say out loud. It’s nice to hear people connect with it.”
Before the movie, Adams already connected with the book’s “unique approach” to motherhood.
She said, “When the character talked about her feelings about her husband and her relationship with him, that felt very relatable to me. It also shows the bigger picture of parenthood and the feelings you have when you lose parts of your identity. I know that feeling. My husband is great, but I still know that feeling.”
Working on Nightbitch also changed how Adams views her future work.
She said, “It made me feel free, and I want to explore that freedom in my future roles. I’ve worked on two movies since then, and I feel like I’ve grown as a person. I’m able to use what I’ve learned in those roles, and I hope it shows in a positive way.”
After Nightbitch, Adams got another lead role in the real-life comedy Lazy Susans, which she is also helping to produce.
Nightbitch will be in theaters on December 6.
