Starlink, a satellite-based internet service owned by SpaceX, a company led by billionaire entrepreneur and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is now available in Bhutan. This service, which provides internet access worldwide through artificial satellites, may launch in Bangladesh later this year, according to a report by Indian news outlet The Hindu on Wednesday (February 12).

The report states that Starlink satellite internet service is now accessible in Bhutan. SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, is working to establish low-orbit, low-latency satellite internet in various regions, including landlocked areas, airspace, and maritime zones.

On February 11, Starlink released an updated map showing where its satellite internet service is currently available. The map indicates that, like the United States, Canada, Mongolia, and several European countries, Bhutan now has access to this satellite internet.

Currently, Starlink’s broadband internet service is not available in Bangladesh. However, efforts are underway to introduce the service in the country. According to The Hindu, the approval process for launching Starlink in India is still pending with regulatory authorities, while the timeline for its availability in Myanmar remains unknown.

In Bangladesh, Starlink’s internet service is expected to launch sometime this year. The company has been trying to enter the Bangladeshi market for several years. Last year, a Starlink delegation visited Dhaka and held meetings with the investment board regarding potential business opportunities.

Previously, Elon Musk stated that Starlink’s satellite internet beams were shut down in India after satellite equipment was seized in Imphal East district, Manipur, in late 2024. The confiscation raised concerns that armed groups might be trying to access Starlink illegally. Currently, the service is not available in India.

Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite-based internet constellation. It provides broadband internet for streaming, online gaming, video calls, and more. By utilizing a network of satellites in low Earth orbit, Starlink ensures high-speed internet access even in remote locations.

Starlink satellites are launched into space using SpaceX rockets. The service delivers high-speed internet to users worldwide, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity in areas where conventional internet infrastructure is inadequate.

Notably, Starlink is already operational in at least 50 countries. In July last year, Starlink technology was tested in Bangladesh. The company aims to provide high-speed internet, particularly in rural and remote areas across the globe.
