Netflix’s hit series Squid Game has set a remarkable new record with the release of its second season. The Korean drama, which became the platform’s biggest TV debut ever, garnered an astounding 68 million views within its first four days. The success has only continued to grow, as the show reached 58.2 million more views in its first full week, bringing the total to a staggering 126.2 million views in just 11 days.
This new record surpasses all other Netflix series in terms of views within such a short time frame, a testament to the show’s massive global appeal. Squid Game season 2 now holds the second spot on Netflix’s list of most popular non-English-language series, with the first season still reigning at number one. However, with months left for more viewers to tune in, the second season could eventually claim the top spot.
The season picks up three years after the events of the first season, following Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he returns to the deadly games, determined to end them once and for all. The drama continues to captivate audiences with its gripping narrative and intense twists.
Looking ahead, a third and final season of Squid Game is already in the works. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk reassured fans that the wait for season 3 won’t be as long as the three-year gap between seasons one and two. “I believe we will be announcing the launch date for season 3 soon,” said Hwang, adding that the upcoming season will be bigger, more intense, and even more entertaining than its predecessors.
Fans can now enjoy both Squid Game seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, with the eagerly awaited third season expected to drop sometime next year, possibly in the summer or fall.
