The event was inaugurated at the Jessore Gymnasium on Friday (October 25). In the opening ceremony, Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Azaharul Islam felt embarrassed as Sheikh Hasina’s name was mentioned in the Jessore theme song and he ordered the police to arrest 5 people and take them to the police station.
These 5 people are – Imran Hasan Tutul, photojournalist of Dainik Spandan and joint editor of Jessore Journalist Union, Humayun Kabir, President of Karate Organization Jessore District Branch, General Secretary Rafiqul Islam, Director of Jayati Society Archana Biswas and Shekhar Jessore General Secretary Roshan Ara Rasu.
General Secretary Rafiqul Islam said that the opening ceremony of the two-day international karate competition was held on Friday. 16 people from Nepal, two guests from India, one guest from Nepal and a total of 320 people from 10 districts of Bangladesh participated in the competition. At the end of the opening ceremony, around 12:30 pm, the staff of Shekhar Jessore performed a dance. The ‘theme song’ was played through the mobile phone to highlight Jessore’s identity of the dance event. Towards the end of that song, Jessore’s Sheikh Hasina IT Park is mentioned.
Notably, the song ‘Khejurer Gur Phule Mela, Nakshikanthar Jessore Zila’ was composed around 5-6 years ago. DC felt shocked at the mention of Sheikh Hasina’s name in that song. Later, when he ordered to lock the gate of the gymnasium, the police closed the gate. From there he and President Humayun Kabir, Roshan Ara Rasu, and Imran Hasan Tutul were handed over to the police. The police brought them to the police station. Besides, the police called Archana Biswas to the police station on her mobile phone and took her into custody. Archana Biswas attended the event as a guest. He went home towards the end of the show when the ruckus started. Later the police informed him.
They were arrested on the orders of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Azharul Islam.
A General Diary entry has been made at the police station, and the matter will be investigated.
