Renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal turned her performance into a powerful message of protest during her recent concert in Kolkata, breaking away from the traditional expectations of a grand musical finale. At the “Shreya Ghoshal Live, All Hearts Tour” organized by Ishq FM, the singer stunned the audience by using her platform to address a pressing social issue rather than ending the concert with one of her popular hits.
In an unexpected move, Shreya announced, “I have prepared a song, and I want you all to listen. My only request is that no one claps after the song is over. Just listen. If needed, play it again, but don’t applaud. This song is made from the words of my heart, and I dedicate it to this city and everyone here.”
She then performed the haunting track, “Joto Sondhyar Jawa Mana, Joto Ratrier Abhisondhi”, which cast a profound silence over the entire venue. Fans, moved to tears, witnessed a poignant artistic protest. When the song ended, Shreya left the stage quietly, and instead of applause, the crowd erupted into chants of “We want justice, we want justice!”
Her performance quickly went viral on social media, with people praising the singer for her courage and sense of social responsibility.
The Hindustan Times reported that Shreya’s concert, originally scheduled for September 14, had been postponed in response to a brutal incident that shook the city. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Shreya wrote, “What happened to the girl in Kolkata was barbaric and horrific. As a woman, thinking about it sends chills down my spine. With a heavy heart, I’m postponing my concert out of respect for her.”
Shreya kept her word, ensuring that the memory of the incident, which occurred at R.G. Kar Hospital, was not forgotten. Her song, filled with emotion and protest, became a reminder of the tragedy and a call for justice.
