Shakira Falls Onstage Just Before Performing ‘Whenever, Wherever’

The Voice News: Shakira proved once again that she’s a true professional—even when faced with a stumble. The global pop icon experienced a minor fall during her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour performance in Montreal on May 20, right before launching into her hit song “Whenever, Wherever.”

In fan-recorded footage, the Colombian superstar is seen slipping and falling forward onstage. But in true Shakira fashion, she handled the moment with grace, spinning around smoothly and getting right back up in front of the microphone. Admirers online were quick to applaud her poise and resilience. One fan on X wrote, “She handled it like the boss that she is,” while another called it “a great example of resilience.”

This isn’t the first hiccup during her current tour. Earlier this year, Shakira postponed several tour dates due to health issues. In February, she was hospitalized with a stomach ailment and had to cancel a performance in Lima, Peru. “The doctors have informed me that I’m not in condition to perform tonight,” she shared in a post on February 16. “I’m very sad I won’t be able to be with my incredible fans in Peru.”

In March, more complications arose when concerts in Chile, Colombia, and Peru were canceled due to production issues. Shakira explained that the local promoter’s production team failed to meet safety specifications, making the stage unsafe for her crew and audience. “It’s painful for me to come to a country I love and have to reschedule a show due to circumstances beyond our control,” she wrote on March 2.

Despite setbacks, the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour—named after her 12th studio album released in 2024—has been a powerful return for Shakira. The album, her first since El Dorado in 2017, includes the lyric “Las mujeres ya no lloran, las mujeres facturan,” which translates to “women don’t cry, they cash in.”

The tour began on February 11 in Rio de Janeiro and has since made stops throughout South America, Central America, the Dominican Republic, the U.S., and Canada. Shakira also earned a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran and performed at the ceremony.

Currently, her tour is set to wrap up on November 16, with rescheduled dates planned for Lima.
