Scott L. Schwartz, the actor and former wrestler known for his role as Bruiser in the Ocean’s Eleven film series, has died at the age of 65. He passed away from congestive heart failure on November 26 at his home in Covington, Louisiana, confirmed by his wife, Misty.
Schwartz first portrayed Bruiser in Ocean’s Eleven (2001), where his character pretended to beat up George Clooney’s Danny Ocean. He reprised the role in Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007).
George Clooney expressed his sorrow, saying, “I’m sorry to hear that Scott is gone… He was a gentle soul and he will be dearly missed.”
In addition to his film roles, Schwartz appeared in TV shows such as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Martial Law, Angel, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He also starred in films like Fun with Dick and Jane and The Scorpion King.
Born on March 16, 1959, in Philadelphia, Schwartz began his career as a professional wrestler under the names The Israeli Commando and Giant David before transitioning to Hollywood as a stuntman and actor.
His wife, Misty, shared that Schwartz was particularly proud of his charity work, receiving the Glass Slipper Award from the CHOC children’s healthcare foundation.
“Scott was known for being full of life, a strong and loving person, and a lover of food and travel,” Misty said. “He truly loved life and everyone he met.”
Schwartz is survived by his wife, children Angela and Adam, his mother-in-law Brenda, cousins Sherry and Duwayne, and his aunt Penni.
