Sajeeb Wazed Joy Denounces ‘Purbachal Plot Scam’ as Political Smokescreen

Dhaka, March 11, 2025 – Sajeeb Wazed Joy has strongly condemned the allegations surrounding the so-called “Purbachal Plot Scam,” calling it a politically motivated distraction orchestrated by the #Yunus regime to shift public focus from the country’s deteriorating law and order situation.

In a statement, Joy asserted that the charges against him, his mother, and other family members were fabricated to tarnish their reputation. “Whenever the illegal #Yunus regime faces governance failures, they resort to making baseless accusations against my family through foreign media,” he stated.

The allegations involve corruption in the allocation of residential plots in the Purbachal Project, a claim Joy vehemently denied. “The entire process followed legal procedures, and there was no wrongdoing. Yet, they continue to make baseless allegations without providing any evidence,” he said.

Joy further accused the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of being politically compromised after its recent reconstitution in December 2024. He pointed out that the new ACC Chairman, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, had previous ties to BNP, having served as Khaleda Zia’s private secretary. He also claimed that Momen had been forced into retirement by the Awami League government over corruption allegations during his tenure as Biman MD and CEO.

“This is nothing but a smear campaign led by a biased and compromised official. No credible investigation can be expected from such a politically influenced ACC,” Joy concluded.

The allegations have sparked fresh political tensions as Bangladesh continues to grapple with rising violent crimes, including rape, extortion, and robbery. Meanwhile, the government has yet to respond to Joy’s accusations regarding the motives behind the charges.
