Sacked Tedesco, Courtois Opens The Door To Return To The National Team

Thibaut Courtois Has announced that he will not return to the Belgium team if Tedesco is the coach.

Domenico Tedesco’s end has been hinted at for the past few weeks. Finally, the farewell hour went to him. The 39-year-old coach was relieved of his duties as the coach of the Belgian national team. The decision was announced by the Belgian Football Federation in a statement after a meeting with the coach on Friday. The contract with him was till 2026 World Cup. Tedesco’s departure removes a major obstacle to Thibaut Courtois’ return to the national team. Due to the strained relationship with the coach, the Real Madrid goalkeeper said last August, “After many incidents with the coach and after much thought, I have decided not to return to the Belgian national team under his management.”

After the 2022 World Cup, Tedesco had a great start as coach. Belgium did not lose any match in the first 13 matches under his coaching. But last year, the team was eliminated from the last sixteen in the Euro. They later finished third in the Nations League after winning just one of their six group matches.

His position has been extremely shaky ever since he lost to Israel last November. In total, Belgium won only once in the last 10 matches. The Italian coach had to pay for it.

The sadness of farewell is naturally touching him. “I have always felt great pride as the coach of the Red Devils. We have achieved a lot together. But that beautiful journey came to an unfortunate end.” There have been media reports that Thierry Henry is replacing Tedesco as coach for quite some time. The French great was Belgium’s assistant coach when Roberto Martinez was coach.
