Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Possible “At Any Moment

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war could be implemented immediately if sufficient international pressure is applied on Moscow. Speaking at a press conference in Prague alongside Czech President Petr Pavel, Zelenskyy emphasized that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin remains unresponsive to peace efforts.

“Without increased pressure, Russia will not take any real steps to end the war,” Zelenskyy said. He noted that Russia has ignored a U.S.-proposed ceasefire for 54 consecutive days and advocated for an immediate, unconditional 30-day ceasefire to allow diplomacy a genuine opportunity.

Putin recently announced a symbolic three-day ceasefire (May 8–10) to commemorate WWII’s victory anniversary, which Zelenskyy dismissed as ineffective. Instead, he pushed for broader measures: “More sanctions, continuous support for Ukraine, and stronger defense cooperation in Europe.”

President Pavel echoed Zelenskyy’s concerns, stating that Russia has shown no signs of pursuing peace and stressed that only Putin holds the authority to end the conflict instantly.

The Czech Republic, a consistent supporter of Ukraine, has spearheaded an international initiative to deliver large-caliber ammunition. In the past year, Ukraine received 1.6 million rounds under this program, with another 1.8 million expected in 2025. Zelenskyy praised the initiative and highlighted plans for expanded cooperation in military aviation, pilot training, and F-16 support.

On social media, Zelenskyy said he was preparing for upcoming foreign policy talks aimed at securing a ceasefire. He also revealed that during a recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Vatican, the two leaders agreed a 30-day ceasefire was the critical first step toward ending the war.
