The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that it is prepared to engage in discussions with the United States regarding a peace initiative proposed during recent talks between the US and Ukraine. According to spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, these discussions could commence as early as March 13.
The announcement follows high-level negotiations in Saudi Arabia on March 11, where Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept a 30-day ceasefire. The United States has since conveyed the proposal to Moscow. “We are ready to discuss the initiatives set out there in future contacts with the United States. Such contacts are already possible as early as today,” Zakharova stated.
The Kremlin confirmed that US negotiators are en route to Russia to facilitate the discussions. Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov and US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz reportedly spoke by phone on March 12 to coordinate the upcoming talks.
This development marks a significant step in diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing conflict, with both sides signaling a potential path toward de-escalation. However, the outcome of these discussions remains uncertain.
