Rita Ora and Sterling K. Brown have joined the cast of Henry Cavill’s upcoming movie Voltron.
The pop singer and This Is Us actor will star alongside Cavill, John Kim, and Daniel Quinn-Toye in the live-action film produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Filming is set to begin in Australia this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the movie from a script he co-wrote with Ellen Shanman. Thurber will also produce the film along with Todd Lieberman, Bob Koplar, and David Hoberman.
Voltron is based on several Japanese anime series, such as Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. The story follows a team of space explorers who pilot a giant robot named Voltron. The franchise has led to several US adaptations, including Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix, which ran for eight seasons.
Plot details for the new film are being kept secret, but Thurber shared some hints in a video message at VoltCon in October. He promised the film would stay true to the spirit of Voltron while introducing a new generation of pilots. “We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to those iconic elements that you love,” he said.
Rita Ora is not only a successful music artist but also a judge on The Masked Singer, The X Factor, and The Voice. Earlier this year, she joined the action-thriller He Bled Neon, starring alongside Jack O’Connell, Joe Cole, and Marshawn Lynch.
Sterling K. Brown recently starred in American Fiction, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Supporting Actor. He is also in the upcoming thriller Double Booked, alongside Zazie Beetz and Alexandra Daddario. Brown is known for his role in This Is Us and co-hosts a weekly rewatch podcast with Mandy Moore and Chris Sullivan.
Voltron currently does not have a release date.
