Putin Congratulates Trump, Says He is Interested in Discussing War

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on being sworn in as the President of the United States. He also said that he is interested in discussing the Ukraine war with the Trump administration.

Putin said these things in his address to the National Security Council of Russia on Monday. His speech was broadcast on television. Putin also mentioned Trump’s willingness to re-establish contact with Russia.

Putin said, “Of course we welcome such a position of Trump. Congratulations to the newly inaugurated US President for taking office.

The Russian President said that he is interested in discussing the Ukraine war with the Trump administration. He said Trump’s position “should not be in favor of a temporary cease-fire” but rather “a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all peoples and nations living in the region”. Naturally, we will look after the interests of Russia.
