Junaid Akbar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking permission to meet former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently in prison.
Speaking to the media after submitting the petition, Akbar accused the government of violating legal norms by preventing meetings with Khan. He also warned about increasing provincial intolerance and rising tensions between state institutions and PTI’s founding chairman.
Akbar emphasized the party’s commitment to constitutional and legal principles, stating that PTI’s senior leaders would raise concerns about the unfair treatment of Imran Khan before the Chief Justice.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has denied imposing any restrictions on meeting Imran Khan. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari stated that Khan’s family, legal team, and party leaders have been regularly visiting him. She criticized PTI’s claims, accusing them of expecting unrestricted access to the prison, as if it were an entertainment venue.
