London’s busiest airport, Heathrow, was shut down due to a power outage caused by a fire at an electrical substation. The airport authorities announced that operations would remain suspended until midnight, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
In a statement on social media platform X, Heathrow Airport stated, “To ensure the safety of our passengers and staff, Heathrow Airport will remain closed until 11:59 PM on March 21.” Passengers were advised not to travel to the airport and to contact their airlines for further updates.
The disruption has led to widespread frustration among travelers. Many passengers who arrived to catch their flights were forced to return.
According to flight tracking website FlightRadar24, at least 120 flights had to be diverted to alternative airports or returned to their points of origin due to the power failure.
