Police Submit Evidence File on Russell Brand to CPS for Possible Charges

Detectives are looking into Russell Brand for historical sex offense allegations and have sent evidence to prosecutors to consider possible charges.

Brand has been interviewed by the police three times since a September 2023 investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches revealed claims of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse against him.

These incidents are said to have happened between 2006 and 2013, during a time when Brand was very famous, working with Channel 4 and BBC Radio 2.

He has denied the allegations, calling them “very hurtful.”

The Metropolitan Police announced on Saturday that they received several reports of sexual offenses from women following the original investigation.

They stated that “a man in his 40s” was interviewed by officers three times as part of the investigation.

The police confirmed that they have sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for review.

The CPS acknowledged receiving this file to consider charges against a 49-year-old man.

The allegations against Brand come from a time when he was a well-known TV and movie star.

Other claims involve accusations of his controlling and abusive behavior.

The BBC mentioned it had received five complaints about Brand’s actions while he hosted radio shows there.

Earlier this year, Channel 4 apologized for not addressing a complaint made against Brand in 2009. The production company Banijay UK also apologized for not properly handling concerns raised about him during his time on Big Brother spin-off shows.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said they have a dedicated team supporting the women who came forward.

He added that they are committed to investigating sexual offenses, no matter when they occurred.

In an online interview earlier this year, Brand said it was “very painful” to be accused of what he calls “appalling crimes.”
