PM Modi Meets Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor at BIMSTEC Summit

Bangkok, April 4, 2025 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional issues.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s support for a democratic, stable, and inclusive Bangladesh. He emphasized a people-centric approach to fostering cooperation between the two nations, highlighting its tangible benefits. He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to building a constructive relationship with Bangladesh.

Border security was a key topic, with Modi stressing the importance of law enforcement and preventing illegal crossings, especially at night. He also expressed concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, and urged the government to ensure their protection by investigating crimes against them.

Congratulating Bangladesh on assuming the Chair of BIMSTEC, Modi expressed optimism about strengthening regional cooperation under its leadership. Both leaders agreed to enhance consultations for better regional integration within the BIMSTEC framework.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to resolving bilateral issues through constructive dialogue, reinforcing the long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
