According to a report by Al Jazeera on Tuesday (February 18), the incident occurred at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The aircraft, carrying 80 passengers, overturned while attempting to land. Among the injured, a child was also reported to be in critical condition. The accident took place on Monday at around 3:30 PM local time.
Following the incident, the airport authorities posted on social media, stating, “Emergency teams are arriving at the scene. All passengers and crew members are being accounted for.”
The air ambulance service Ornge informed news agencies that the injured child was transported to SickKids Hospital in Toronto, while two critically injured adults were taken to other hospitals.
Possible Cause of the Accident
Although the exact cause of the accident remains unknown, reports suggest that the incident occurred amid a severe winter storm, accompanied by strong winds and heavy snowfall. The airport had already been covered with approximately 22 cm (8.6 inches) of snow over the weekend.
