A judge in Pennsylvania has granted an extension to voting hours in Cambria County, allowing polls to remain open until 10 p.m. ET after a “software malfunction” disrupted the scanning of ballots.
Election officials reassured voters that everyone wishing to cast a ballot will be accommodated, and all votes will be counted. Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Whatley urged voters to stay in line and complete their voting, despite the technical delay.
According to County Solicitor Ron Repak, the issue was identified early in the day. “The Cambria County Board of Elections discovered that a software issue with the County’s Electronic Voting System had prevented voters from scanning their ballots,” he said in a statement. “This should not discourage voters from casting their votes at their designated precincts.”
Repak further emphasized that all completed ballots will be securely collected and counted. “The County Board of Elections has set up additional voting machines at precinct locations to continue electronic voting, while still allowing voters to submit paper ballots if necessary.”
