Pakistani Forces Arrest Key Terrorist Linked to 2021 Attack on US Troops

Pakistani security forces have successfully apprehended Mohammad Sharifullah, a top commander for Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K) and an Afghan citizen, in a counter-terrorism operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the arrest on Wednesday, stating that Sharifullah was responsible for a 2021 attack on US troops.

“The wanted terrorist was apprehended in a successful operation conducted in the Pakistan-Afghan border region,” Sharif said in a statement.

US President Donald Trump expressed gratitude to Pakistan for the arrest, noting that Sharifullah, who was responsible for the bombing that killed 13 US service members during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, is on his way to the United States to face justice. The arrest was made possible due to the renewal of counter-terrorism cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.

“Excellent cooperation has been established between Pakistan and President Trump’s new government,” said a Pakistani security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The official praised the wide-ranging joint efforts on counter-terrorism.

This development marks a significant step in the ongoing fight against terrorism and highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing global security threats.
