Amid escalating tensions following a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region, Pakistan has announced a ban on all Indian-owned or Indian-operated aircraft from entering its airspace. This move comes a day after India imposed several decisions against Pakistan, accusing it of indirect involvement in the attack that left 26 people dead.
In response, Pakistan has also:
Announced the termination of the Simla Agreement with India.
Declared the closure of the Wagah border.
Halted all forms of trade with India, including the transit of goods from third countries via Pakistan to India.
Suspended SAARC visa privileges for Indian nationals and ordered those already in Pakistan under this arrangement to leave within 48 hours.
Additionally, Pakistan has declared Indian military advisers at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad as “persona non grata” and instructed India to reduce its diplomatic staff in Pakistan to 30 members by April 30.
These decisions were made during an emergency meeting of Pakistan’s National Security Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting also strongly condemned India’s decision to withdraw from the Indus Waters Treaty and warned that any disruption to water flow would be considered an act of war.
India claims that several Pakistani nationals were involved in the Pahalgam attack, a charge Pakistan has firmly denied.
