Oscars to Honor Stunt Performers Starting 2028

In a historic move, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that a new category, “Achievement in Stunt Design,” will be added to the Oscars starting in 2028. This marks the first time stunt performers and coordinators will be officially recognized at the prestigious awards.

The category will debut during the 100th Oscars, a milestone event for the Academy. Industry professionals and fans alike have long advocated for the inclusion of stunt work, citing its vital role in filmmaking.

“This is a long-overdue step toward acknowledging the artistry, creativity, and physical dedication behind stunts,” said a spokesperson from the Academy.

The decision comes after years of campaigning by stunt professionals and growing public support for their recognition.
