At least five people were killed in the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, USA, on Wednesday (January 8). Hundreds of homes have been destroyed, and firefighting and water supply systems are under immense pressure. Over 100,000 people have been evacuated from their homes to safety.
Many Hollywood stars have also been affected by the fires, with some seeking refuge in safer areas. Several Hollywood events have been postponed as a result. Now, it has been announced that the Oscar nominations will also be delayed due to the catastrophic fires in Southern California. As a result, the voting period has been extended by two days.
The Oscar nomination voting, which began on January 8, was originally scheduled to end on January 12. The deadline has now been pushed to January 14.
Consequently, the nominations announcement, initially set for January 17, will now take place on January 19.
In an email to Academy members, CEO Bill Kramer expressed condolences, saying, “We extend our deepest sympathies to those impacted by the devastating wildfires in Southern California.”
In addition to the Oscars, several premieres and press conferences have been canceled. The Critics’ Choice Awards, which were scheduled for January 12, have been postponed to January 26.
