Hollywood, CA — “No Other Land,” a powerful documentary highlighting the alliance between Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday.
The film chronicles Adra’s resistance against the forced displacement of his community in Masafer Yatta by the Israeli army. It vividly captures the destruction of homes and the eviction of residents to make way for a military training zone. The unique friendship between Adra and Abraham forms the heart of the narrative, showcasing their struggle to bridge the gap in their vastly different living conditions.
In their acceptance speech, Adra and Abraham expressed their shared vision for justice and equality. Adra emphasized the film’s reflection of the harsh realities faced by Palestinians, urging the world to take action against injustice and ethnic cleansing. Abraham highlighted the importance of their combined voices, calling for an end to the destruction in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages taken in the October 7 crime.
Abraham also pointed out the inequality between them, with Adra living under military law while he enjoys civilian freedoms. He called for a political solution that ensures national rights for both peoples, criticizing foreign policies that block the path to peace.
“We are intertwined,” Abraham said. “My people can be truly safe if Basel’s people are truly free and safe. There is another way. It’s not too late for life, for the living.”
