‘No need’ to advise Mbappe on offside

The French star himself knows how to avoid Barcelona’s offside trap, says Fede Valverde

Kylian Mbappe was absolutely lackluster in the first Clasico of his career. In addition to wasting one opportunity after another, he was trapped in the offside trap many times. Before another Clasico, his club team-mate Fede Valverde says he does not see the need to tell the French star how to avoid Barcelona’s offside trap.

Real lost 4-0 at home to Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season last October. In the La Liga match, Real’s attack could not do much against Barcelona’s ‘Highline’ defense. In the first 20 minutes, Madrid’s team was trapped in the offside trap five times. Mbappe alone fell into the offside trap eight times, which is the highest in any match in his career.

Real Madrid will face 14-time champions Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday. Valverde said about the offside at the press conference the previous day, Mbappe, who has scored 14 goals for Real so far this season, knows his own well.
‘I can’t teach a lesson to a player [Mbappe], who has won one World Cup and played in another World Cup final, who has won everything in France. He’s a legend right now, one of the best in the world, he knows what to do. ”

“Barcelona are doing well what they are doing with their high-line defence. But we have to be ready. Midfielders and defenders will have to think more about giving the forwards the right passes in the goalmouth. ”
