Netflix’s Counterattack Surpasses Venom 3 in Global Views

Netflix’s latest action thriller, Counterattack, has quickly become a global hit, surpassing Tom Hardy’s final Venom installment, Venom: The Last Dance, as the most-watched movie on the platform this week. The Mexican film, which arrived on Netflix in late February, has accumulated an impressive 18.6 million views, overtaking Venom 3 with 12.8 million views, despite the latter being the most-watched English-language movie on the service this week.

Counterattack, originally titled Counterstrike, follows the intense journey of Captain Guerrero (Luis Alberti) and his elite team of soldiers as they navigate a harrowing ambush from a ruthless criminal cartel after rescuing two hostages. The film’s gripping action and high stakes have captured viewers worldwide, making it Netflix’s top-performing movie of the moment.

The official synopsis of Counterattack reads: “When a Mexican Army officer saves two hostages, he and his team of special agents discover a graveside full of cartel victims – making their squad the target of a drug cartel leader who’ll stop at nothing to silence them.”

Meanwhile, Venom: The Last Dance, which premiered in cinemas in October 2024 before arriving on Netflix in select countries on February 25, follows Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his symbiote on the run from authorities after becoming targets of both human and alien forces. While Hardy confirmed that Venom 3 will be the final movie in the Venom trilogy, he expressed a strong connection to the character, stating that he would be open to returning to the role in the future.

“I’ve loved every moment of Eddie and Venom and I was really fond of them. I’d play them any time because there’s a special place that exists within me to want to operate those two characters wherever you put them in whatever capacity,” Hardy said. “I feel like a sense of obligation and responsibility and duty of care to those two that will never end. I’ll always be with them.”

As Hardy transitions from Venom to new projects, his next role will see him starring in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming series MobLand on Paramount+, alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. The show focuses on a family of elite London fixers and the complicated web of relationships within their business.

With Counterattack leading global views on Netflix, it seems that audiences are eager for new action-packed thrillers, signaling a strong start for the Mexican film as it continues to gain momentum.
