Israel Claims Success in Targeted Pager Explosions That Killed Hezbollah Militants
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Sunday that he personally approved an attack targeting Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon in September, resulting in nearly 40 deaths and thousands of injuries. Netanyahu’s spokesperson, Omer Dostri, conveyed that the Prime Minister authorized a precision strike on Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and an explosive operation aimed at the group’s communication equipment.
Operation Targets Hezbollah Communication Devices
The operation was reportedly conducted between September 17 and 18, when thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah fighters detonated across Lebanon within 30 minutes. Israeli sources claimed the devices, which lack modern surveillance features, were employed to avoid Israeli tracking efforts.
Lebanon Files Complaint with UN’s International Labour Organization (ILO)
Following the explosions, Lebanon lodged a complaint with the United Nations’ International Labour Organization, accusing Israel of conducting what it called an “egregious war against humanity, against technology, against work.”
Iran Responds with Missile Barrage on Israel
In the wake of the attack, Iran launched a series of missiles, including hypersonic Fattah projectiles, targeting key Israeli sites. The Israeli defense system, supported by a U.S.-led coalition, intercepted most missiles, according to Israeli officials, though Iran claims over 400 of their missiles struck their targets.
Ongoing Conflict in the Middle East
The region has faced escalating tensions over the past year, beginning with an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel, which led to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The violence has since expanded across neighboring areas, resulting in significant casualties and rising concerns over regional stability.
