Mumbai — Authorities in Mumbai are investigating a bomb threat emailed in Russian to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), warning of an attack. The threat was sent to the official email of the recently appointed RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra, according to a senior Mumbai police official on Friday.
“We have registered a case, and the investigation is ongoing,” the officer confirmed.
This incident adds to a surge in bomb threats across India this year, including numerous hoaxes. On Monday, 40 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email. Airlines and airports in India have faced nearly 1,000 hoax threats in 2024—nearly ten times the total recorded in 2023.
