More than 7,000 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in the U.S. in 9 Days

Between January 23 and January 31, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 7,260 undocumented immigrants across various states.

Among those arrested, 5,763 have been detained and will soon be deported to their respective countries or sent to the Guantanamo prison in Cuba. ICE provided this information in a post on social media platform X on Saturday.

The arrests took place in cities such as New York City in New York, Chicago in Illinois, and Boston in Massachusetts. According to ICE’s statement on X, many of those arrested have been accused of crimes such as rape, sexual violence against minors, firearm offenses, and drug-related crimes.

In November 2024, Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would make the U.S. free of illegal immigrants if he returned to power. After winning the election, Trump was sworn in on January 20, in accordance with constitutional procedures. On the same day, he signed several executive orders, including one titled “Protecting the American People from Invasion.”

Following Trump’s signing of this order, immigration enforcement operations have intensified across the country.

According to official statistics, more than 170,000 undocumented immigrants currently reside in the U.S. Washington has set a target to deport at least 100,000 of them.
