Modi May Visit the US Soon, Likely to Meet Trump

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may soon visit the United States, and during this possible trip, he is likely to meet US President Donald Trump. However, no official announcement has been made regarding this visit yet.

According to multiple sources, Indian news outlet NDTV reported this information on Tuesday (February 4).

The media outlet stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the US on February 12, as per several sources in India’s Ministry of External Affairs. This would be Modi’s first US visit since Donald Trump’s historic return to the White House.

As per the travel plan, Modi will head to Washington, DC, after his two-day visit to Paris, sources said. However, there is no official confirmation yet. He will be in Paris on February 10 and 11 to attend the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit.

If Modi travels to the US from Paris, this visit will take place amid India’s concerns regarding Trump’s stance on immigration and tariffs.

On Sunday, Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports, along with an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods. Later, he suspended the tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports but did not offer any relief regarding China.

Donald Trump was sworn in as the new US President on January 20. A week later, on January 27, Indian Prime Minister Modi had a phone conversation with the Republican President. During the call, both leaders agreed to work towards strengthening the “trusted” partnership between India and the US, focusing on trade, energy, and defense cooperation.

Meanwhile, Washington has begun deporting undocumented Indian immigrants. A US military C-17 aircraft has reportedly departed from US soil carrying several Indian nationals back to India.

Officials from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have confirmed this information to Reuters. However, details such as the state from which the aircraft departed, its destination in India, and the number of Indian passengers onboard remain unknown. ICE officials have stated that the plane will reach Indian soil in over 24 hours.

The US has initially decided to deport 18,000 undocumented Indian immigrants, with the first batch already on the flight.
